“Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson
I take photos every day, and this page links to some of my personal favorites. My Nikon D700 D800 is almost always with me, usually accompanied by the 14-24mm F/2.8 lens shown here.
You can find all of my photos since 2006 on my Flickr photostream (browing by sets is any easy way to see what’s there), and I also have a separate photostream for pictures of our dogs. Many of my favorite photos from 1998 to 2006 are on the old Photos section of Mahugh.com. In 2012, I started posting my best-of shots to 500px, with my favorites arranged in a portfolio here.
I’ve also started doing blog posts and screencasts about particular types of photos I enjoy taking, for others who might enjoy the same things:
- Photos of Mount Rainier is a post where I share the details of my favorite places from which to take photos of Mount Rainier.
- Photos of Panning is a post that covers how to take a panning photo, with examples of some of my own favorites.
- Photos of Drinks is a post where explain how I approach photographing a drink.
- I put together a presentation on pet photography for the Seattle Humane Society in 2011.
This screencast, entitled “Jamie’s Lying Eyes,” covers a Photoshop technique I often use to brighten the eyes of our dogs Jamie and Alice in photographs, especially photos taken in the snow or low-light conditions:
This screencast, entitled “Bright background? Use flash!” covers how and why I tend to use flash for photos in bright sunlight or against a bright background:
