  1. Yeah, I saw that. I thought it summed up the two presidential entities fairly well. Carter basically said, “in terms of these specific things, this administration has been terrible,” and Bush’s people basically said, “Carter is a sad old man and no one likes him.”

I think that pretty much sums up the level of honor for each, don’t you? I wonder when this White House will pull out the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” argument?

Though one could argue that Clinton already played that card … :) Maybe “I know you are, but what am I?” Or “Losersayswhat?”

  2. To my memory, I don’t think this kind of name-calling between living Presidents has happened much in the past — they’re usually quite polite to other members of the club.

All I can think of, is Jimmy must be really pissed about something. Maybe it’s all those photos of GW clearing brush, which have supplanted our memory of Jimmy the peanut farmer in his jeans and boots. Grrr.

  3. They were talking about this today on WGN radio, and the on-air personality was talking about how Carter was such a bad president that the Iranians held the hostages until Reagan was sworn in. He may have been a bad president (and he was in many ways), but people seem to forget that Reagan had that little Iran-Contra thing going that affected that situation quite a bit. Given that, I shudder to think what kind of selective memory we’ll have about W 27 years from now.
